Post seminar thoughts:

-The cakes were a success!

-The whole installation came across in the critiques as a joke at painting's expense.

-The wall mounted paint cakes grid-like support brought Theo Van Doesburg to the discussion. The 'Manifesto of Concrete Art' was recommended as a relevant article to read.

-The cupcakes seemed childlike and cartoonish

-The connection of food paint names to the cakes was enjoyed

-The cakes seemed to mimic/parody High Society

-They seemed naïve, yet they were not.

-I need to find a solution to mounting the wall mounted paint cakes, possibly drying racks for cakes?

-I will make larger full cakes and slices and see how far I can push that connection between decadence and paint

I have also read the book 'The Invisible Dragon' by Dave Hickey to explore the connection between Aesthetic Beauty, Interior Design, House Paint, Colour Theory and Fine Art. There are some interesting oppositions, and connections which could be fun to play around with in a painting context. Specifically around the dance of High Society, Interior Design and Beauty and the role of subjectivity.

I plan to read 'Manifesto of Concrete Art' in the coming weeks to see how this connects and as a potential text for my next literature review.
