Lurking in paint-disposal bins brightly coloured commercial paints mimic hues once only found within precious gems and stones. Brilliant colours hide amongst copious quantities of whites and neutrals. Among the countless Alabasters, Rice Cakes and Sea Fogs are the mysterious Pantone colours and mistints. Low sheens, Acrylics, Enamels, Ceiling Flat’s and Elastomerics all end up here, in the bin.

All the ingredients are right there for the taking. Each work is a test for the process of painting. Some tests reveal which paints pair up to achieve cracking, some reveal which paints stretch and which can hold their own weight. Paint caked together, layered slowly, lathered like icing. Such thick paint needs time. Like ageing the finest wine, patience is needed.
