There are so many types of paint. Not only are there many types of paint, there are many types of paint interactions with other paints, stains and substrates. I play with these interactions to give the materials and substrates more agency over the outcome of my artwork.

There are three steps to my process. The first is to make a mess. In this step a lot is left up to chance. I use found materials as a surface along with recycled paint, which forces me to work with what I have and problem solve. The second step is to interpret my mess. I sit with the work until a story can be found within the shapes. The third step is to highlight and exaggerate what I interpreted in the mess so that others can see my interpretation.

By giving space for the materials to ‘talk’, it makes the creative process more exciting and opens the door to the unpredictable. I also think this process can unlock the imagination and inspire storytelling and self reflection.
