So this post is all about thoughts that have emerged throughout this week-long seminar.

Firstly here are some key terms and waypoints of interest;

These are all in relation to my practice:

Primary and functional connections

Secondary and theoretical background interests

  • Texture

  • Curiosity

  • Colour

  • Object versus Painting

  • Neo-Expressionism

  • Affordances

  • Salvaging

  • Time

  • Evolution

  • Balance

  • Adaptability

  • Value

I will use these points to find texts relevant to my practice to grow and hopefully enrich my work.

Below are assignments to be completed for my last year of MFA.

Literature review (A) due Monday 27th March

Analyse two critical entries that connect, contribute and contextualise my work within its conceptual frameworks.

Approx. 700 - 1200 (words per)

Literature review (B) due Monday 29th May

Rinse and repeat.

Approx. 700- 1200 (words per)

Oral Presentation due August/September

20 min presentation discussing and contextualising my practice.

(Note for me: check out Frieze magazine for help finding interesting texts)

Literature Review =

To look over/To take a view on/To search through in-depth continually + Published texts

Think about how my areas of interest intersect with the discourses which my artwork proposes.

Ideas for developing my practice:

  • Incorporate theories of interior design rules into my colour choices.

For example:

Alabaster trims, Quarter Alabaster ceiling, with an Inside Back feature wall.

  • Use types of paints that reflect the type of colour those paints often are in interior design

For example:

Use a Lustacryl, (woodwork), in Alabaster with a Zylone Sheen, (walls), in Rice Cake etc.

  • Create a recipe/s for layering paint so that it supports itself without the need for a frame

  • Use principles of Interior Design to formulate a logic and a formula to decide how work could be hung

  • Use colour combinations that I suggest for clients at work, (here I could use humour at the overuse of colours)

  • Let the colour names aid the naming of works

  • Research decay as a process as well as times factor in changing colour preferences

  • Research Helen Calder who has an adjacent practice, particularly of stretching the limits of what paint itself can do
